Tomás Gueglio is an Argentine composer currently living in Chicago. On the liner notes of his portrait album Duermevela, guitarist and producer Dan Lippel states: “Tomás creates musical environments that facilitate subtle examinations of timbre, phrase, and gesture [...] eschewing bombastic surface activity in favor of substantial multi-layered textures. The resulting music exists in a captivating space, balanced between the visceral and tactile on one side, and the curated and meticulous on the other.”
A 2025–2026 Guggenheim Fellow in Music Composition, his work has been commissioned and supported by prestigious institutions, including the Fromm Music Foundation, the Library of Congress, and the Americas Society. He collaborates frequently with leading contemporary music groups; recent partners include Ensemble Dal Niente, Ekmeles, Quince Ensemble, and Departure Duo, among others. His discography features a debut portrait album, Duermevela (New Focus Recordings, 2020), alongside notable collaborative releases such as Madrigales del Río (Quince Ensemble, 2024), Triste y Madrigal (Ensemble Dal Niente, 2021), and Nocturno Lamarque (Jennifer Koh, 2021). A second portrait album, Ciclo Lamarque I: Songs and Madrigals, is slated for release in September 2026.
He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2016, a Master of Music from Syracuse University in 2010, and a Bachelor of Music from the Universidad Católica Argentina in 2007. His early musical upbringing was profoundly shaped by legendary Argentine composer Gerardo Gandini, whose workshop he attended between 2004 and 2007.
