Lincoln Chamber Brass, an ensemble comprised of students and alumni from the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music and one student from DePaul University, took the bronze medal in the senior wind division of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Association’s 2014 competition. The prize included a $2,000 cash award. The competition, held in Notre Dame, Indiana, featured 48 ensembles from the United States and around the world.

Lincoln Chamber Brass is a quintet that includes Bienen senior Ansel Norris, (trumpet), senior Kevin Haseltine (French horn), and master’s student Joseph Peterson (trombone); Bienen alumnus William Cooper (’12) (trumpet); and DePaul senior Scott Hartman (trombone). The ensemble was formed after all five members were accepted into the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

“It has been a whirlwind putting this group together and rehearsing all of this great music, and to have our work culminate in success at Fischoff is so exciting,” said Norris.

Lincoln Chamber Brass will appear at an upcoming Northwestern University Leadership Circle event in Boston on May 28, and they will provide the music for the Bienen School’s convocation on June 21st.

“We have enjoyed every minute of playing together,” said Norris. “It's a special group and we have learned so much from this experience.”
