Love, jealousy, and tragedy collide in Bizet’s classic opera as Don José turns his back on his childhood sweetheart and his military career to pursue the attentions of the fiery, free-spirited Carmen. When the popular, yet boastful toreador Escamillo arrives and sets his sights on Carmen, José finds he must compete for her affection. 

Run time: Approximately 3 hours. There will be a 15-minute intermission after Acts I and II, and a brief pause between Acts III and IV.

Performed in French with English supertitles.

Audience Advisory: This production contains depictions of violence, tobacco use, and the firing of stage weapons.

Cahn Auditorium is the largest performance space on campus, with more than 1,000 seats and an orchestra pit. The venue offers main floor and balcony seating. Larger Bienen School opera productions are held here.
