The PRISM Quartet, an ensemble that comprises Bienen School Associate Professor Taimur Sullivan and three other saxophonists, has received Grammy Award consideration for their recent recording “Heritage/Evolutions, Volume 1.”

The album is under consideration for nominations in three Grammy Award categories: Best Jazz Instrumental Album; Best Instrumental Composition for "I Will Not Apologize For My Tone Tonight" by Rudresh Mahanthappa; and Best Engineered Album, Classical, for Aaron Nevezie, Karl Petersen, Matthew Levy, and Katsuhiko Naito.

“Heritage/Evolutions, Volume 1,” released by innova in January 2015, features new pieces and guest appearances by jazz saxophonists Steve Lehman, Dave Liebman, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Greg Osby, Tim Ries, and Miguel Zenón. The album charts fresh musical territory, drawing on the saxophone’s cross-cultural heritage to blend jazz with everything from Western and South Indian classical music to Romani and Latin American folkloric music.

PRISM Quartet members include Taimur Sullivan, baritone saxophone; Timothy McAllister, soprano saxophone; Zachary Shemon, alto saxophone; and Matthew Levy, tenor saxophone. Learn more about PRISM Quartet.
