Galvin Recital Hall
A native of Malaysia, Sylvia Wang has presented solo and collaborative performances throughout the Americas, Europe, and the Far East and has recorded for the Newport Classic, Boston Records, Northeastern, and CRI labels. Reflecting the diversity of her interests, her competition successes include the Royal Overseas League in London, an Avanti award leading to a debut in London’s Purcell Room, the J. S. Bach International Piano Competition, and the Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition. Wang’s varied career also encompasses guest teaching and workshops as far afield as Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Perth, and she recently completed a six-city tour of China. Her program juxtaposes works by Japan’s Toru Takemitsu and Akira Miyoshi and China’s Chen Yi with atmospheric and descriptive music by Olivier Messiaen as well as Claude Debussy’s Preludes, Book 2.
