Distinguished tenor Stanford Olsen has a nearly four-decade-long career performing in operas, concerts, and recitals with the world’s leading orchestras. Since his professional debut in 1986 with Bellini’s I Puritani, Olsen has performed over 160 times with New York’s Metropolitan Opera. His performances of leading tenor roles in the operas of Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, and Bellini, as well as his bel canto roles of Nemorino, Almaviva, and Arturo have garnered international acclaim. A concert soloist since 1983, Olsen has sung with orchestras around the world in repertoire from Bach to Bartok, including over 100 performances each of Beethoven’s 9th, Handel’s Messiah, and Orff’s Carmina Burana. Olsen is the recipient of four Grammy nominations, the 1989 Walter W. Naumburg Award, and numerous other accolades. A sought-after clinician and adjudicator, Olsen has taught at a myriad of universities, conservatories, and music festivals. In this master class, he coaches accomplished Bienen School voice and opera students.

Located in the Ryan Center for the Musical Arts, this 400-seat hall features a 40-foot glass wall offering views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. Undulating walls of Forest Stewardship Council–certified wood, covered with a thin layer of African moabi wood, provide optimal acoustics, and the hall is equipped with state-of-the-art sound and video equipment for recording.
