“[Smith’s] virtuosity goes beyond physical facility to realize a rare metaphysical poetry” —CD Classical Review
American-Swiss lutenist Hopkinson Smith's repertoire features a variety of styles, from Spanish music for vihuela and Baroque guitar; to French lute music of the Renaissance and Baroque; to music from the German high Baroque. Smith has twice won the French Diapason d’Or for his recordings and received the Diapason d’Or de l’Année for his recording of music from the world of Francesco da Milano. An accomplished teacher, he has performed and given master classes throughout Europe, the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, and has given concerts and workshops under the auspices of the Barenboim-Said Foundation and the Swiss Arts Council.
Smith’s program includes early Italian and French lute music by Joan Ambrosio Dalza, Francesco Spinacino, and Pierre Attaingnant.
Tickets are $30 for the general public and $10 for students with valid ID.
