Conflux Quartet—an ensemble of Bienen School of Music master’s students Dylan Hong, Jared Marble, Tina Uhrenbacher, and Alvin Wong—has been invited to the 49th Annual Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. The quartet advanced through a video audition round and will participate in the live competition May 20-22, 2022, held at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.

The Fischoff Competition is the nation’s largest chamber music competition. Each year, an average of 125 ensembles, representing 22 nationalities, enter in either the wind or string categories. Since its founding, more than 7,400 musicians have participated, many of whom have gone on to distinguished careers in music performance and education.

Conflux Quartet also advanced to the finals of the 2021–22 Music Teachers National Association chamber music competition and to the semifinals of the 2022 North American Saxophone Alliance competition. All are saxophone students of Taimur Sullivan.

Recent Bienen School winners of the Fischoff Competition include the Galvin Cello Quartet, silver medalist in the 2021 senior string division; and saxophone quartet ~Nois, silver medalist in the 2017 senior wind division.
