The Dover Quartet, 2013 winner of the Banff International String Quartet Competition, brings the music of Mozart to life as it opens its second year as Quartet-in-Residence at Northwestern University’s Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music.

See the full performance schedule below. Tickets to performances are $30 for the general public and $10 for students with a valid ID.

The 2016-17 season kicks off Tuesday, Oct. 18, with a celebration of the quartet’s Oct. 14 release of “Tribute: Dover Quartet Plays Mozart” on the Cedille Records label. The recording honors one of Dover Quartet’s artistic inspirations, the Guarneri Quartet, with a reprise of the program from that group’s debut album. Guarneri violist Michael Tree makes a guest appearance on the recording.

The Oct. 18 concert, to be held at 7:30 p.m. at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, includes Mozart’s two final string quartets, the Quartet. No. 22 in B-flat Major, K. 589 and the Quartet No. 23 in F Major, K. 590, as well as Beethoven’s Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 130, with Grosse Fuge.

The Dover Quartet will appear at additional performances on Sunday, Jan. 15, (part of the 2017 Winter Chamber Music Festival) and Tuesday, May 23. The quartet’s residency also includes master classes, open rehearsals and chamber ensemble coaching with Bienen School students.

During the 2016-17 season, the Dover Quartet will tour with double-bassist Edgar Meyer and violinist Avi Avital, make debuts in eleven cities across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and perform in more than two dozen cities throughout the United States, including Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center, New York, Philadelphia and Seattle. Over the course of the season, the group will undertake the first complete Beethoven quartet cycles of their careers at the Montreal Chamber Music Festival, University of Connecticut and SUNY Buffalo.
