Hans Jørgen Jensen, professor of cello, has received the 2010 Artist Teacher Award, given by the American String Teachers Association (ASTA).  This award is presented almost annually to a North American artist/pedagogue of highest stature.  Past recipients include Pablo Casals, Isaac Stern, and Lynn Harrell.

Founded more than 60 years ago, ASTA is the largest national organization for string teachers in the United States.  It seeks to promote excellence in string and orchestra teaching and playing.

Hans Jensen is the recipient of numerous honors and prizes.  As a performer he has won the Artist International Competition in New York, the Jacob Gades Prize, Copenhagen Music Critics Prize of Honor, and a Danish Ministry of Cultural Affairs Grant for Musicians.    He has also been named Outstanding Studio Teacher of the Year by the Illinois chapter of the American String Teachers Association and was granted a U.S. Presidential Scholar Teacher Recognition Award by the U.S. Department of Education. His students have won numerous national and international competitions. Studying at the Juilliard School with Leonard Rose and Channing Robbins, Jensen has been a guest artist with the Copenhagen Symphony, Danish Radio Orchestra, Irish Radio Orchestra, and Basel Symphony Orchestra.   In addition to his position at the Bienen School of Music, he also serves on the faculty of the Meadowmount School of Music.
