One of the leading conferences for new music in the world, the Northwestern University New Music Conference (NUNC!) brings together composers, performing musicians, scholars, and other new music advocates for a series of workshops, panel discussions, and concerts.

Save the Date: NUNC! 6

The sixth edition of the the Northwestern University New Music Conference will be held at the Bienen School of Music April 25-27, 2025.

NUNC! 6 will feature the International Contemporary Ensemble, guest composers George Lewis and Bec Plexus, and a broad range of of performances and presentations selected from the Calls for Participants (see below).

Calls for Participants

Performers, composers, theorists, musicologists, and others active in the field of new music are invited to apply to the calls below for participation in NUNC! 6. The deadline for all calls is January 24, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. CST.

Applicants are expected to attend NUNC! 6 in-person when selected for any of the calls. Conference participation is free, but travel and lodging are the full responsibility of the participants.

NUNC! 5

April 21–23, 2023: NUNC! 5 featured guest composers Julia Wolfe and Alex Temple, guest keynote speaker Miki Kaneda, and New York-based ensemble Yarn/Wire.

NUNC! 4

April 24, 2021: Featured artists of the all-virtual conference included Arditti Quartet, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Jennifer Walshe, and Katherine Young.

NUNC! 3

April 20–22, 2018: NUNC! 3 featured Claire Chase, Derek Bermel, Simon Steen-Andersen, Ashley Fure, and the Jack Quartet.

NUNC! 2

November 6–8, 2015: Guest artists included Third Coast Percussion, Ensemble Dal Niente, Ted Hearne, Donnacha Dennehy, Kate Soper, Ann Cleare, and Rick Burkhardt.

NUNC! 1

The first NUNC! took place in April 2014 and featured composer Brian Ferneyhough, pianist Nicolas Hodges, Ensemble Dal Niente, and the Mivos Quartet.
