The Symphonic Wind Ensemble kicks off NUNC! 6 (the Northwestern University New-Music Conference) with an opening concert featuring guest composer George Lewis’s Big Shoulders, Sharp Elbows, with its references to the city of Chicago as envisioned by the American poet Carl Sandburg. Bienen alumnus Andrew Nogal joins the ensemble in a performance of Christopher Stark’s Velocity Meadows for oboe, chamber winds, electronics, and video. Bookending the concert are “electrified” selections by Mason Bates and Björk.

About
Pick-Staiger is a 972-seat hall located in the Arts Circle on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University. The main lobby entrance for concerts is on the west side of the building (revolving and regular doors). Since its inception in 1975, the hall has functioned as both a classroom and performance facility for Bienen School of Music performing ensembles, faculty recitals, festivals, and professional guest artists.
