The Symphonic Band’s December concert opens with Giovanni Gabrieli’s Canzon per sonar primi toni No. 1 and continues with Henry Dorn’s Never Forgetting, a reference to a famous quote from poet Maya Angelou. Concluding the program’s first half is Robert Spillman’s Concerto for Bass Trombone, featuring Concerto Competition winner Liam Kantzler. The second half begins with Vivo, a colorful new work by Zhou Tian, before concluding with Whatsoever Things..., written in memory of Northwestern’s late Director of Bands John Paynter (1952-1996).

About
Pick-Staiger is a 972-seat hall located in the Arts Circle on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University. The main lobby entrance for concerts is on the west side of the building (revolving and regular doors). Since its inception in 1975, the hall has functioned as both a classroom and performance facility for Bienen School of Music performing ensembles, faculty recitals, festivals, and professional guest artists.
