Donald Schleicher, conductor; Lena Ying-Ting Wong, graduate assistant conductor; Wanxinyi Huang, viola (Northwestern Concerto Competition winner) 

John Corigliano’s Promenade Overture opens the concert, an inventive piece with surprising staging. Northwestern Concerto Competition winner Wanxinyi Huang joins the orchestra for an arrangement of Elgar’s emotional Cello Concerto in E Minor. Concluding the concert is Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, a work that took the composer 21 years to complete.

About

Pick-Staiger is a 972-seat hall located in the Arts Circle on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University. The main lobby entrance for concerts is on the west side of the building (revolving and regular doors). Since its inception in 1975, the hall has functioned as both a classroom and performance facility for Bienen School of Music performing ensembles, faculty recitals, festivals, and professional guest artists.
