The Music of Benny Golson and Joe Henderson

Monday, January 27, 2025 at 7:30pm CST

McClintock Choral and Recital Room

Derrick Gardner and Kevin Fort, conductors

Following the passing of saxophonist, composer, and arranger Benny Golson in September, the Derrick Gardner ensemble dives into his musical legacy, performing a selection of both his popular and lesser-known works. The Kevin Fort ensemble delves into the music of tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson. A member of Horace Silver’s band in the early 1960s, Henderson later played a prominent role in numerous landmark albums on the Blue Note label, including Herbie Hancock’s The Prisoner and Lee Morgan’s The Sidewinder, and collaborated with Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, and Blood, Sweat & Tears.
