Galvin Recital Hall
Andrew Munn, bass; Christopher Guzman, piano
Andrew Munn, who has been praised for his “sonorous bass and sensitive phrasing” (Huffington Post) joins Bienen School piano professor Christopher Guzman to perform Schubert’s Winterreise song cycle, a work which—along with Die schöne Müllerin—secured the composer’s spot among the masters of 19th century lieder. The complete cycle sets to song twenty-four poems by Wilhem Müller to create a somber and wistful illustration of a lone traveler in the cold. Munn has performed across Europe and North America, and his work as a creative artist and reinterpreter of historical repertoire has earned him recognition from the Rhonefestival für Liedkunst and Germany’s Neustart Kultur initiative. Guzman enjoys an international performing career, showcasing a broad range of styles from the Baroque era to the avant-garde. He has appeared in many international venues, including Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, Leipzig’s Gewandhaus, and London’s Wigmore Hall, and has collaborated with celebrated soloists such as Ilya Gringolts and Jeremy Denk.
Tickets are $8 for the general public and $5 for students with valid ID.
