Gives budding jazz musicians the opportunity to refine both their performance skills and their theoretical understanding. Combos rehearse daily, with special emphasis on improvisation. In addition, students attend classes in jazz theory and composition, jazz history, and jazz arranging. All jazz combos perform in concert during the final week of the institute.

Private Instruction

As part of the required curriculum, students attend one-hour private lessons weekly with our performance faculty. During this time students primarily address technique, solo literature, and performance practice. Additionally, chamber and ensemble literature may be coached. Private lessons are part of the standard tuition charges and do not pose an additional expense.
