Title:  Charles Vernon, trombone
Description: Charles Vernon began his orchestral career as a bass trombonist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 1971. He was chosen by Riccardo Muti to play bass trombone with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1981, and five years later he joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. His mentors and teachers were CSO tubis Arnold Jacobs and trombonist Edward Kleinhammer. Vernon teaches trombone at Northwestern and DePaul Universities and is active as a soloist and teacher throughout the world. In 1991, with the CSO under Daniel Barenboim, he gave the world premiere of Ellen Taaffe Zwilich's Concerto for Bass Trombone, commissioned by the orchestra for its centennial. In 2006 he and the CSO premiered Chick'a'Bone Checkout a new concerto for alto, tenor, and bass trombone by Christian Lindberg.
