contemporary early music ensembleBienen Contemporary/Early Vocal Ensemble

The 24-voice Bienen Contemporary/Early Vocal Ensemble (BCE) sings a highly specialized, virtuosic repertoire for advanced choral singers, concentrating on music of the 21st century and drawing relationships to its polyphonic roots in early music, primarily that of the Renaissance.

Chamber Music Program

Through the Chamber Music Program, students participate in weekly coachings with their assigned master teacher and also participate in weekly master class settings with guest artists and our own Bienen School faculty.


Chamber OrchestraChamber Orchestra

The Chamber Orchestra performs standard literature of the 18th and 19th centuries as well as contemporary works written expressly for chamber orchestra. The individual musical responsibility and preparation required in a small ensemble are emphasized.

The Contemporary Music Ensemble (CME) presents exciting concerts of wide-ranging contemporary works. A one-on-a-part ensemble of approximately 20 players, CME trains students to take on this challenging repertoire while thriving in a large chamber ensemble setting.

The Symphonic Band comprises a roster of 65 music majors and performs works for large band or wind orchestra.

Symphonic Wind Ensemble is the smallest and most select of university wind ensembles that emphasizes performance of major original works for band.

The Symphony Orchestra, the Bienen School of Music's premier orchestra, performs major literature from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.

Alice Millar Chapel ChoirMillar Chapel

The Alice Millar Chapel Choir is made up of a select group of students from any school in the University. This group performs for weekly services at Alice Millar Chapel and in special concerts.


Baroque ensembleBaroque Music Ensemble 

Baroque Music Ensemble provides study and performance of music written before 1800, primarily from the baroque period, for select instrumentalists and vocalists. The ensemble is open to performers on both modern and period instruments and to singers of every voice type.

Jazz Orchestra enables interested and qualified students from any school in the University to gain experience in the jazz idiom and to improve improvisation skills.

Jazz Small Ensembles enable students to gain experience in the jazz idiom while offering student composers and arrangers the chance to write for various jazz instrumental combinations.

Philharmonia, an orchestra that performs a wide range of repertoire, is open to interested and qualified students from any school in the University. It is the largest orchestra on campus.


University SingersUniversity Singers

University Singers provides performing opportunities to interested and qualified students from any school in the University. The ensemble performs accompanied and a cappella literature of all periods.


marching bandWildcat Marching Band

Wildcat Marching Band combines marching precision and exceptional playing ability in a finely polished and spirited unit. The band performs for all home football games and one or more out-of-town games each season.


women's chorusWomen’s Choir

Women’s Choir is designed for students interested in performing literature specifically for treble voices. Membership consists primarily of nonmusic majors but also includes Bienen School students.
